Skiing in Heavenly
Tucked between South Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Mountains, Heavenly offers an extensive ski area with some impressive statistics, together with one of the most beautiful views in the world. With a peak elevation of over 3,000m, a vertical rise of over 1,000m, an average of 360”of snow every year twinned with 300 days of sun, it’s no wonder Heavenly is one of the most popular places in the west to ski. Heavenly is the only mountain resort to span two states, with skiing available from either California or Nevada. Since it was taken over by Vail Resorts, Heavenly has seen huge upgrades and can now compete with any of its’ larger, grander counterparts.

Skiing in Heavenly – The Mountains
Heavenly is one of the largest ski areas in the US, covering 4,800 acres and featuring 90 trails. Monument Peak, the mountain, has terrain for all levels of skiers. Beginners have 20% of the runs allocated to them, and a 15 acre learning area has recently been added. Heavenly is packed with long cruising runs for intermediates, with the best being found on the Nevada side, and has plenty of tree-skiing. The majority of runs, 45%, are geared towards advanced and expert skiers – on the California side the famous run, Gunbarrel has a 500m vertical amongst its’ sheer drops, and on the Nevada side, head for Mott Canyon, with some of the steepest lift served runs in west. The longest run in Heavenly is a whopping 9km, and the lift system, incorporating 30 lifts including an aerial tram, gondola and 8 high speed lifts, have an uphill capacity of 41,000 per hour.
