Skiing in the Grand Massif
The Grand Massif ski area is set in the Haute Savoie region of France between Geneva and Mont Blanc. There are 265kms of ski runs serviced by 80 ski lifts; there is a vast variety of terrain and good skiing for all abilities. Snowboarders also have a good choice with a half pipe and 3 ‘jamparks’ in the Grand Massif area.

The Grand Massif ski area

The Grand Massif ski area is made up of 5 villages – Samoens is the only ski resort in France to be listed as a historic monument. .Morrilon is a traditional village with a 16th Century church, Sixt-Fer-a-Cheval is set in an area of outstanding natural beauty and Les Carroz d’Araches is a family orientated ski resort. Flaine is the most well known ski resort in the Grand Massif; it is the only modern purpose built ski resort in this area. Although it lacks the charm of the other ski resorts in the Grand Massif it is set in a snow sure bowl at the highest point with the majority of accommodation being ski-in, ski-out.

The Grand Massif ski area offers family orientated ski holidays, the closeness to Geneva makes it a popular ski destination with families because of the short transfer times. The après ski in the Grand Massif is relatively quiet compared with other ski resorts in France; however Flaine has some lively restaurants and bars.
