Are Skiing Holidays
Arejfallen, or Are as it is known as, is Swedens’ largest and best known ski resort and offers an extensive ski area, with excellent facilities for families. Are is actually made up of 5 villages, each with its’ own ski area, with the original town sitting beside a beautiful lake, and surrounded by some stunning scenery. Dating back to the late 19th century, the town is an attractive mix of both traditional and modern buildings and exudes a friendly down-to-earth charm.

Skiing in Are – The Mountains
Are sits at an altitude of 380m, and the resort enjoys a long season from November to May. The recently updated lift system, incorporating a series of 44 lifts with an uphill capacity of nearly 50,000, takes skiers to the highest peak at 1,274m at Areskutan. The 5 villages are linked by bus, and together they offer almost 100km of pistes, catering for all levels of skier, but mainly intermediates. Are is home to 99 ski runs, divided into 12 green, 42 blue, 35 red and 5 blacks. Beginners have use of an excellent ski school in Are, with most instructors speaking fluent English, and children under 11 in Are receive a free lift pass.

Intermediates will enjoy the long cruising runs, with most of the skiing above the tree-line, and the majority of runs conveniently lead straight back into the village centre. Are is home to some challenging trails for expert skiers, including the World Cup Downhill run and the Hummelbranten mogul run, and the resort offers plenty of off-piste and heli-skiing. Night-skiing is available in Are, with the slopes open until 8pm for most of the season  Snowboarders in Are have good facilities, with the local snow park home to 5 quarter-pipes and a half-pipe, and the resort offers 56km of cross-country trails.

Skiing in Are – The Town
The traditional Swedish town of Are offers a lively après-ski, yet with a relaxed friendly atmosphere. When the lifts close, the bars come alive and there is plenty of choice for the evenings’ entertainment, with 15 clubs in the resort. The town centre is attractive, centred around the main town square and the railway station, and there are 50 restaurants to choose from, both in town and on the mountain.
