Skiing in Kranjska Gora – The Mountains
The skiing in Kranjska Gora takes place on the northeastern slopes of the Vitranc Mountain, with a total of 30km of pistes. Beginners are well catered for here, with over half of the twenty runs rated as easy, with most of the lower level slopes being wide open and gentle. A total of 19 lifts, including 14 drags and 4 chairs, carry 16,000 skiers around the slopes per hour and up to the top elevation of 1,628m. Intermediates in Kranjska Gora have a choice of four runs over quite varied terrain, mainly through the scenic wooded areas of the mountain, and it’s possible to ski back to the village if conditions allow. Advanced skiers should head to the nearby Podkoran Mountain, with its’ more challenging terrain, including some steep blacks and the world class slalom trail. Snowboarders have excellent slopes to learn and practice on, and can freeride down some varied terrain. Kranjska Gora is a huge cross-country area, with 40km of trails to discover, all running through the beautiful countryside and some even crossing into Italy and Austria. The snowmaking facilities here in Kranjska Gora are impressive, with over three-quarters of the slopes boosted by artificial snow when needed.

Kranjska Gora is a fully equipped ski resort set in one of the most beautiful valleys in Slovenia. Visitors can stay right on the slopes and families are well catered for with child-friendly restaurants and facilities, all considerably cheaper that those found in other European ski resorts. The large modern hotels offer a good variety of bars and restaurants, with some fairly sophisticated lively après-ski entertainment, and after dark visitors can while away the hours in one of the three clubs and two casinos in Kranjska Gora. Non-skiers will find lots to do off the slopes, from horseback riding and tobogganing, to hiking, curling and swimming. Excursions from Kranjska Gora include visiting the impressive 17th century church in Bled, the Postojna Caves and daytrips to Salzburg or Venice.
