Skiing in Geilo The ski resort of Geilo is situated at 800m in Southern Norway, with the stunning backdrop of Hallingskarvet, the largest mountain plateau in Northern Europe. Geilo has been a tourist resort for over 100 years and has good ski resort facilities. Geilo is a charming village with a traditional, Norwegian atmosphere and skiing to suit every level of skier.
Geilo skiing holidays Geilo is a great ski resort for families and beginners, the English speaking instructors are good and the wide and uncrowded slopes are good confidence builders. There is a total of 26kms of piste at Geilo and intermediate skiers have the best choice of runs. There are two ski areas linked by a free bus in the morning and afternoons and with no crowds and a good value ski pass many ski miles can be covered while staying here. Geilo has five black runs but there is not too much to test expert skiers. Geilo is an excellent resort for cross country skiers with 220kms of trails, it is also an ideal location to learn Telemark skiing. Geilo has two excellent snowboard parks and a boardercross park and it is a resort set up for first time snowboarders or experienced boarders.
Apres ski in Geilo There is a good choice of restaurants and cafes in the town of Geilo, some lively bars and even a couple of clubs. Norwegians like to hit the slopes at the weekends and party! There are plenty of activities to experience in Geilo - night skiing, reindeer sledding, ice fishing, tobogganing, and snowmobiling, to mention but a few. The town also has a cinema, fitness centre, indoor pool, hot tub and sauna.
