The resort of El Tarter can be found within the vast Granvalira area of Andorra, the popular destination in the sunny Pyrenees, offering a great choice of good value skiing within a fun lively atmosphere. Andorra has always been one of the first choices for groups and school ski trips, and has succeeded in recently shedding its’ budget reputation with a massive investment in the lift systems, creating much larger linked ski areas and a major facelift in terms of accommodation. That said, Andorras’ duty free tax laws will always make it much better value that its’ European neighbours, with cheaper lift tickets, food and drink and fantastic shopping opportunities.

Ski Holidays in El Tarter – The Mountains
El Tarter, and its’ neighbour Soldeu, situated one mile away share the same slopes and offer some of the most varied scenic skiing in Andorra. El Tarter itself offers some of the most diverse skiing and is one of the best access points to Grandvalira. They offer a combined ski area of 86km, incorporating 56 slopes, and reaching a height of 2560m.The new 10 seater gondola delivers skiers to Pla de Riba Escorxada, the hub of El Tartar and from there it’s a choice of chairlifts – to mainly intermediate slopes, predominantly reds and blacks. The ski school at El Tarter is excellent, with its’ large number of friendly English speaking instructors, and children will delight in learning in the Mickey Snow Club, spotting their favourite Disney characters as they whizz down the nursery slopes. Advanced skiers can try out the Stadibumps mogul field, one of the largest in Europe, or the championship course on the Esparver run. Access to the huge ski area of Grandvalira, incorporating 193km of pistes, is quick and easy, and the resort of Pas de la Casa, with its’ slightly more challenging terrain, is now a lift ride away. Snowboarders flock to El Tarter to ride the ACG Snowpark Tarter, with its’ halfpipe, rails and jumps, and there is a viewing area to watch all the freestyling action. There is also a free Ski Ratrac, where skiers can be towed up the mountain by grooming machines to enjoy some off-piste action.
El Tarter Skiing – The Apres-ski
Apres-ski in El Tarter is a quieter affair than that of its’ famous neighbour, Soldeu, which has a reputation for a wild bar and club scene. Being only a mile away, skiers can have the best of both worlds, with nights out Soldeus’ The Aspen Bar, or drinks at the local Vintage Club or El Mosquit. El Tarter has a more distinct Spanish flavour than other Andorran resorts, and tapas can be found in many restaurants, along with other international fare such as Indian and Mexican. Food and drink are exceptionally good value for money in El Tarter, along with such duty free favourites such as electronics, jewelry, and of course, alcohol and cigarettes. Off the slopes visitors to El Tarter can enjoy snowshoeing, dog sledding, snowmobiling and even igloo building.
