Shopping
The quaint town is a delight to wander round, with its charming streets and horse-drawn carriages, and historic old houses and barns. Shopping offers everything from ski gear to designer clothes, and a wide range of local Swiss souvenirs, such as watches, army knives, chocolate and cuckoo clocks. There's an excellent choice of goods, however prices in Zermatt can be quite high.

Dining
The dining in Zermatt is excellent, and with an amazing choice of good food and drink, eating out can be a real occasion, especially in some of the mountain restaurants. In town, choose from cosy cafes and pubs serving simple food, or try any of the local dishes including fondu, raclette and rosti in a traditional Swiss eaterie. International restaurants in Zermatt include Chinese, Japanese, Thai and Italian.

Apres-ski
Nightlife is vibrant in Zermatt, and once the lifts close the scene gets going in a range of lively bars. There's everything from pubs with a party atmosphere, to jazz clubs and local bars with warming fireplaces - perfect for a gluwein or a schnapps. There's plenty of live music and concerts, and, for night-owls, a choice of clubs and discos stay open till late.

Skiing in Zermatt can take in many galleries and exhibitions, whilst there are 2 cinemas showing international films. The Matterhorn Museum tells the story of the village, and regular guided walking tours give an insight into its history and culture. Trips include a day out in Italy to the neighbouring resort of Cervinia.
