Ski schools
There are 7 ski and snowboard schools in Zermatt, offering everything from beginner’s group lessons to private instruction. The main companies such as The Swiss Ski and Snowboarding School, Stoked - The Ski School and Swiss Snowboard School and Summit Ski and Snowboard School, among others, offer professional tuition with English-speaking instructors.

Children
Lessons and a ski day-care (for those who are too young to ski all day) are offered for children aged 4 and up, with skiing free for the under-9's, and half-price for those aged 9-16. Zermatt offers non-skiing day-care available for children as young as 2, and there are childminding and babysitting services in the resort. The car-free village makes the resort centre very child-friendly and fun activities such as sledding and swimming can be enjoyed by families.

Shopping
The car-free town with its quaint atmosphere and scenic backdrop is perfect for strolling round, from the main Bahnhofstrasse to the charming cobbled sides streets. Over 300 shops offer everything from ski gear to souvenirs, and there are 3 supermarkets in town as well as various speciality food shops, bakeries and butchers.

Restaurants
There are 38 restaurants up in the mountains in Zermatt, many with an excellent reputation for quality local dishes, as well as exceptional views. The town also offers almost 100 diverse restaurants, serving everything from reasonably-priced fast-food to Chinese, Japanese and Italian. A range of cafes and tea-rooms provide hot drinks and cakes.

Bars
With 35 bars in town, Zermatt has a thriving après-ski scene. Choose from the crowded hot-spots to quieter jazz clubs or cosy traditional bars where folk music is played. The 9 clubs and discos offer a good choice of places for late-night partying.  

Town services
There are a number of banks in town, as well as a couple of places to change money, a post office, library and Tourist Office, which is open daily. Zermatt is also equipped with services such as dry cleaners, hair dressers and photo shops.

Medical facilities
Zermatt is home to 5 doctors and a hospital for medical emergencies, and there are 4 chemists in the village and one dentist.
