Skiing in Whistler - The Mountains
Whistler boasts the highest vertical drop, the most groomed terrain and the most advanced lift system in North America. The resort is made up of 2 mountains, Whistler and Blackcomb, each scaling a massive 7,000' and together these peaks offer more than 8,000 acres to ski in. Amongst the 200 runs the area has you'll find something for everyone, from the famous green run, the Burnt Stew, amazingly 7 miles long, which beginners can aspire to try, to the Davies Dervish, a challenging double black diamond mogul run only for the experts! It's no wonder this resort is a favorite for hosting many international competitions, the next one being the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. Whistler is a great place for children to learn - ski lessons can take them through enchanted forests and past magic castles, there are Adventure Camps for all ages, special Teen Programmes, specific Go Slow areas, a Family Zone and even kids only lifts. The 33 lifts, most of which are high speed, are capable of quickly and efficiently transporting almost 60,000 skiers and riders around the 12 alpine bowls and 3 glaciers. Whistler is not only a skier’s paradise, but attracts a huge number of snowboarders, mainly to Blackcomb with its huge choice of fall-line runs, giant terrain parks and numerous half-pipes. Many thrill-seekers come here to try guided heli-skiing, where intermediate and advanced skiers can experience exhilarating vertical drops of up to 12,000'. For activities off the slopes, as well as the familiar ice-skating and swimming, try the traditional Canadian pastimes - family sleigh rides, snowshoeing, or dog sledding through the stunning backcountry.

Whistler Skiing - The Village
In between the 2 peaks, you'll find Whistler Village - this alpine-style centre of the resort, divided into 5 separate areas, is huge and, most importantly, car-free - it's easy to get around the 300 shops and restaurants and most amenities are within walking distance. Whistler offers some of the best dining to be found in British Columbia, with lots of local seafood, produce and wine (try the famous IceWine) on offer, and the choice of apres ski venues, bars and nightclubs is equally as impressive. If you are going to check out the buzzing club scene, don't forget to bring your ID! Family skiing holidays are particularly well catered for, as Whistler prides itself on being very child friendly, with children welcome in all apres ski bars until 7pm and even the more formal restaurants offering kids menus.  Whistler is a shoppers' paradise, with local artisan shops and upscale clothing stores sharing the cobbled streets with art galleries and luxury spas.  The accommodation choices here, as you would expect, are extensive and will suit any budget, ranging from motels, bed and breakfasts, lodges and condos to luxurious 5 star hotels.
