When Can I Go Skiing

When Can I Go Skiing - Excellent high season skiing
For most skiers the ski season is never long enough, and the official ski season that runs from early December to March seems very short. If you do go skiing at the very start or the very end of the season, the snow may be patchy and not all ski resorts will be open due to low sales making it financially unviable to open the lifts. The European peak winter months will provide the best skiing conditions; the lifts are running, most if not all of the runs will be open and the snow will be fresh. Because of the altitude and colder climate, the mountainous resort areas such as the Swiss, French and Italian Alps are able to stay open longer. January and February are very popular as the New Year storms blow in leaving fresh snow on the slopes giving the ultimate skiing conditions.

When Can I Go Skiing - All year round skiing
If you can’t wait until the winter months to snap on the skis then head to the glacier areas where you can enjoy summer skiing. While some of the glacier resorts are only open during the winter months there are many in France, Italy, Switzerland and Austria that are open year round. Head to resorts such as Zermatt, Gstaad and St.Mortiz in Switzerland for some excellent summer glacier skiing.

When Can I Go Skiing - Festive skiing period
Without doubt the most popular time for a skiing holiday is from December onwards, especially the Christmas and New Year period. The festive period onwards will see all the European resorts in full swing, and the school holidays will see the learner slopes in Austria, Italy and France filling up with children on school skiing trips. Travel north to the Sweden and you will find that you can find some excellent skiing conditions in April and May; you can even ski at midnight thanks to the 24 hours of daylight at this time of the year.
