Skiing In Westendorf
Westendorf, an attractive village with stunning mountain views and lots of amenities for visitors, lies in the heart of the Kitzbuheler Alps in Tyrol, and forms part of the famous Ski Welt area. It is full of traditional unspoilt charm, from the town church to the Alpine chalets, and its’ picturesque setting helped Westendorf win the title of “Prettiest Floral Village” in 1998. Together with Soll, Ellmau, Scheffau, Going, Hopfgartern and Brixen Im Thale, Westendorf is part of the largest interconnected area in Austria incorporating 250km of trails, 128 runs and 93 lifts, and of these resorts, it has the most reliable snow record and one of the liveliest apres-ski. Add to this Westendorfs’ reputation for being fantastic value for money and the large numbers of English speakers found here, and you’ll realise why this resort is such a favourite with British skiers.
Skiing In Westendorf – The Slopes
Skiing in Westendorf offers 45km of great skiing for beginners and intermediates. With 3 ski schools and nursery slopes that are conveniently situated right next to the village with its’ hotels, restaurants and bars, novices can take things slowly. Take the gondola, which is walking distance from most hotels, when ready to tackle the 5 gentle blue runs, and then progress to the more challenging 9 red runs. For intermediate skiers who want to dive straight into the entire Ski Welt area, a 15 minute shuttle bus will take you to Brixen (Westendorf is the only resort not linked by lift) and from here you’ll find 120km of perfect intermediate skiing. Expert skiers will definitely find more interesting challenges here, especially in the Hohe Salve area, as the skiing in Westendorf only offers 1 black run. With 22km of difficult trails and masses of off-piste, thrill-seekers will be well rewarded. Although Westendorf is a fairly low-lying resort, at 800m, its’ 84 snow cannons working over 55% of its runs ensure good snow coverage. With a fun park and a half pipe, Westendorf has appeal for snowboarders too.
Skiing In Westendorf – The Apres-ski
Apres-ski in Westendorf is lively and bustling, whilst retaining its’ Tyrolean charm. Attracting large numbers of British visitors, there always seems to be a party somewhere, whether it’s in the crazy Gerry’s Inn or the Moskito Bar, where you’ll find dancing well into the night, or the warm inviting Café Friends. The Tyrolean Evenings and Fondue Nights are always popular, and with 30 restaurants and 10 bars packed into this fairly small resort, there’s something for everyone. For the non-skier, activities range from sleigh rides, tobogganing and curling to ice skating, bowling and paragliding.
