The car-free town can only be reached by cog railway, which offers a scenic ride up the mountain, and a great chance to explore the area. There are health clubs in various hotels, and a Wellness Centre in Grindelwald offering a selection of relaxing treatments, such as saunas and massages. The cities of Bern and Lucerne are ideal day trips, both less than 2 1/2 hours away.
Dining
The dining in Wengen is varied and priced to suit all budgets, offering casual snacks and pizzas, as well as gourmet fare. Specialties include fondue and raclette, with many dishes featuring regional Swiss cheeses as well as smoked meats, sausages and mushrooms. Don't miss a trip to the Schilthorn revolving restaurant that featured in the Bond film 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service' - the scene of the famous ski chase.
Après-Ski
The bars and cafes get busy at the end of the day, but in general, nightlife in Wengen is fairly subdued. There are a handful of bars and a couple of discos, but most skiers choose to have a low-key evening after dinner. Evening activities include torchlight descents and local folk evenings.
