Wengen Snow Conditions

Wengen lies in the Bernese Oberland region of the Swiss Alps, and is part of the Eiger-Monch-Jungfrau mountain range. Situated on a sheltered terrace in the Lauterbrunnen valley, the resort is southwest facing so sees plenty of sunshine; however the high altitude means generally reliable snow conditions throughout the ski season. Part of the Jungfrau ski area, Wengen is lift linked to Grindelwald and Murren, and is best-known as the site of the Lauberhorn ski races in January.

 

The resort sits at an altitude of 1,300m, and offers skiing up to 2,971m. The main ski area at Wengen is Kleine Scheidegg, which it shares with Grindelward and Murren, and the ski area is characterised by long, well-groomed runs. The ski area at Wengen is best suited to intermediate skiers, with over half the runs devoted to them, with the many blue and red runs ideal for scenic cruising. Wengen's nursery slopes are located right in the heart of the village, and beginners can enjoy stunning mountain scenery and the benefit of the resort's ski schools, which have an excellent reputation. More advanced skiers have limited terrain, but can test their skills on the famous Lauberhorn downhill course, the longest World Cup run in the world, and explore the extensive off-piste found around the area. The Jungfrau region offers 213km of terrain, and offers varied conditions for skiers against stunning mountain scenery.

 

Snow Conditions in Wengen - Ski from December to April 

Wengen's ski season runs from early December to late April. The average snowfall in the resort is 1.3m, and the upper slope averages for 2008 reached 129cm during the month of March. Wengen does have some snowmaking facilities, with 20 snow cannons covering 25km of pistes.
