Villars Snow Conditions

Villars lies in the Vaudois Alps in Switzerland, just one hour from Geneva. The resort is located on a sunny plateau above the Rhone Valley, and, as it is south-facing and fairly low-altitude, can suffer from a lack of snow throughout the season. Despite this, Villars remains popular thanks to its short transfer time, welcoming atmosphere, picturesque views and range of family-friendly terrain.

 

Villars sits on a fairly low altitude of 1,300m, with skiing available up to 2,200m in the resort, and 2,970m on the glacial slopes of Les Diablerets. The ski area is of mid-size and its slopes are best suited to beginner and intermediate skiers. Access to the nursery slopes is good for first-timers, and beginners can soon progress to the higher slopes where there are fantastic views, with the resort also having a number of runs which conveniently lead straight back down to the village. Most of the skiing is below tree-line, but Villars is also home to some sheltered bowls, and there are a few blacks and some exciting off-piste for more advanced skiers. The resort is lift-linked to Les Diablerets, which offers snow-sure slopes on its glacier (3,000m), a much higher vertical drop and more extensive challenging terrain.

 

Snow Conditions in Villars - Snowmaking and extensive grooming 

The ski season in Villars runs from December to April, with February and March seeing the best snow. Upper slope averages for the resort reached 118cm during the 2008 season, and 40cm on the lower slopes. Villars has invested in snowmaking, with 18 acres if terrain covered, and the resort also has a reputation for very well-groomed slopes.
