Snow Reports in Verbier
The world-renowned ski resort of Verbier sits on a sunny well-protected plateau in the Southern Swiss Alps. Verbier offers plenty of high-altitude slopes with much of the skiing above tree-line, and the terrain ranges from wide open glacial slopes and deep powder bowls to long cruising trails and well-groomed beginners runs. The average snowfall ranges from 30-50cm during the season, which runs from late-November to April.
Verbier Snow Conditions - Reliable snow record, good conditions over last few years
Verbier enjoys a reliable snow record, with an average annual snowfall of 330cm, and the resorts' altitude of 1,500m helping to guarantee good conditions. There are, however, many southern and westerly-facing slopes in the ski area, which can tend to get slushy as the season progresses, especially at the lower levels, but the resort does use 70 snow cannons on 20 of the areas' slopes, helping to maintain ideal conditions. February, March and April generally see the most snow, with the last couple of seasons showing the upper slopes during this period having an average snow depth of 200cm.
Snow Reports in Verbier - Cold winters with plenty of sunshine
The average winter temperature in Verbier is -2C. January sees the coldest temperatures of as low as -5C, with December and February averaging around -1C. Temperatures in March rise to 2C, and reach 4C in April. The winter climate in the Swiss Alps is more pleasant than that in the valleys or central plateau, with the area seeing warm sunny conditions when other areas are foggy and cloudy. The Swiss Alps are also known for the 'fohn' winds which bring warm air from the south or north and raise the temperature quite rapidly in Verbier, but also can create strong gale-like conditions and the possibility of avalanches.
