Skiing in Vallandry Vallandry, located on the edge of the Vanoise National Park, is a tranquil village with its’ own ski area and fantastic links to some of the most extensive skiing in the French Alps. The village, together with neighbouring village Peisey Nancroix, forms the region referred to as Peisey-Vallandry, and falls within the massive ski area of Les Arcs. Skiing was popular here before the giant purpose-built resort of Les Arcs was founded, and the region is fast becoming a key area, as it forms the hub of the recently established Paradiski area, with the gondola connecting Les Arcs with La Plagne beginning here.
Skiing in Vallandry – The Mountains Vallandry, located at 1,600m, has some of the most scenic skiing in Les Arcs, with plenty of interesting runs through the beautiful woodlands of the area, mainly suiting beginners and low-level intermediates. Peisey-Vallandry has a combined ski area of 52km served by 14 lifts, offering 10 beginners runs, 13 intermediate and only 1 advanced trail. The heavily forested slopes of Peisey-Vallandry create the most sheltered skiing in Les Arcs, offering better visibility in bad weather than the higher more open slopes. Peisey-Vallandry connects smoothly with the high-altitude villages of Les Arcs, with a high-speed quad chair linking Vallandry to Arc 1800, and from here skiers have access to the huge ski area with a combined terrain of 225km, 118 runs and 58 lifts. The Vanoise Express, linking Les Arcs to La Plagne, begins here in Vallandry and offers those skiing in Peisey-Vallandry an extraordinary amount of terrain - 232 pistes over an area of over 400km, served by 144 lifts, incorporating glacial skiing and runs at an altitude of over 3,000m. The wide selection of varied terrain makes Peisey-Vallandry an ideal resort for mixed-ability groups.
Skiing in Vallandry – The Après-ski Vallandry is an attractive village, with traditional Savoyard architecture, and an authentic mountain atmosphere. The peaceful rural environment, along with the convenient location, attracts many families to Vallandry. At its’ centre is a pedestrianised area, with facilities including a few bars and cafes, and local village stores. In the resort of Peisey-Vallandry, there are 25 restaurants, offering mainly French and Savoyard fare, and a small selection of friendly après-ski venues. For more extensive nightlife, the village of Arc 1950 is recommended. Other activities to try whilst skiing in Vallandry include sleigh-rides, ice-skating, snow-shoeing, hang-gliding and speed-skating on the Olympic track in Les Arcs.
