There is a local museum, giving visitors an insight into the Ladin culture which is still very apparent in the region, and a gallery in Ortisei. There are also numerous churches and chapels dotted around the area and castle ruins to visit, whilst Cortina makes an interesting day trip, with great shopping and dining.
Dining
The Ladin cuisine found in Val Gardena is a mix of Italian and German, featuring plenty of hearty rustic specialities, such as buckwheat pancakes, dumplings, barley soup, polenta, ravioli and sauerkraut. There's a great range of restaurants to try here, with plenty of places for a much-deserved lunch on the mountain.
