Skiing in Val Claret
Val Claret is the highest village in the Tignes ski area, situated at 2,300m, and is ideally positioned for access to the year round skiing available on the Motte Glacier. The village also has direct links to the famous l’Espace Killy ski area, an immense region of 300km which takes in the resorts of Tignes and Val d’Isere. The whole area is a huge purpose-built region, a true skiers resort with fantastic skiing on snow-sure slopes all served by plenty of ski-in/ski-out accommodation.

Skiing in Val Claret – The Mountains
The skiing in Tignes attracts plenty of intermediate and advanced skiers, due to the areas’ huge amount of high altitude extensive trails, vertical drops and off-piste opportunities. Val Claret, at 2,300m stands above the other villages and is the only base with accessibility to both summer and winter skiing, at the foot of the main lifts. Beginners skiing in Tignes have a choice of 5 free lifts at the village level to start off with and then can take the high-speed underground funicular from Val Claret to the top of the Grand Motte, a journey that now takes just 6 minutes. From here, even inexperienced skiers will enjoy the wide open, surprisingly gentle slopes on the glacier, and definitely marvel at the stunning scenery at almost 3,500m. For intermediates skiing in Tignes, the entire Espace Killy is at their disposal, with 100 mid-level runs to be found throughout the region as a whole. The massive vertical drops attract many to Tignes, with the maximum skiable vertical here being 1,900m, the largest in the world. It is the more advanced skier who is best served here in Tignes, as the vast amount of diverse terrain can keep even the best skier busy for days. Skiing in Tignes for experts means some steep challenging black runs, and an extraordinary amount of high-altitude off-piste to explore. Famous runs in Tignes include the slopes of La Toviere, packed with huge moguls, the championship downhill course on L’Aiguille Percee, and the Olympic black run, the Face, which leads down to Val d’Isere. Snowboarders in Tignes have the worlds’ largest snow park to play in, an area covering 2.5km, home to a half-pipe, quarter-pipe, various jumps, a boarder-cross and a free ride zone.

Skiing in Val Claret – The Après-ski
The village of Val Claret is compact and full of bars, restaurants and shops. Some favourites for après-ski fun include The Fish Tank, The Mover Café and Daffys, and the nightlife in Tignes centres around a couple of lively clubs in Val Claret, one of them being the popular Crowded House. The best restaurant in Tignes, Le Caveau, can be found in Val Claret, along with others offering a variety of both ethnic food and local Savoyard specialities. Whilst skiing in Tignes, other activities to try include bowling, swimming, ice-skating, snow-shoeing and hiking.
