Telluride Snow Conditions

Located in the San Juan mountain range, Telluride lies at the southern tip of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. The ski resort sits in a canyon surrounded by cliffs and forested mountains, in a fairly remote location (a 6-hour drive from Denver International Airport) with this quiet destination town enjoying uncrowded slopes. Telluride receives a reliable amount of snowfall throughout the season, and with the resort seeing over 300 days of sunshine every year, conditions remain excellent for skiers and boarders. 

 

A high-altitude ski resort, Telluride sits at 2,908m, with skiing up to a top elevation of 3,735m, and a vertical drop of over 1,000m. The ski area is surrounded by vast peaks, some reaching almost 4,000m, and the resort sees a high amount of snowfall each winter - between 7 - 8m annually. Located in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, where the snow has the lowest moisture content than anywhere else in the country, Telluride also sees plenty of fresh champagne powder throughout the season. Intermediate skiers have a wide range of long groomed runs to explore, as well as the exhilarating off-piste amidst spectacular scenery for expert skiers. A quarter of the slopes are wide and gentle, with even first-time skiers having access to the high peaks of the resort, and, as the mountain is naturally separated into areas, beginners are prevented from straying into more challenging terrain.

 

Telluride enjoys a long ski season, opening its doors in late November and closing in April. Upper slope averages in Telluride reached 202cm in 2008, with February and March seeing the most snowfall each year. As well as the reliable snowfall, the resort has invested in snowmaking equipment, with 125 snow cannons covering 204 acres of slopes.
