Located in northwest Colorado, Steamboat ski resort lies at the foot of Mount Werner in the Yampa Valley, on the western ridge of the Continental Divide in the Rocky Mountains. Known as 'Ski Town USA', Steamboat is known for its fantastic champagne powder snow - it is where the term was invented - and the area sees up to 8.5m every year, with this predictable snow resulting in extremely reliable conditions for skiers and boarders each season.

Sitting at an altitude of 2,103m, the skiing at Steamboat reaches a top elevation of 3,224m. The ski resort is actually spread over 6 mountains, and boasts a range of world-class runs on all four mountain faces, including well-groomed cruisers, steeps and bumps, and some of the best tree skiing in Colorado, through fir, pine and aspen glades. Steamboat is ideally positioned to receive plenty of snowfall from both northern and southern storms, with huge amounts falling on the westernmost slopes of the Rocky Mountains. The light fluffy snow that falls here has been measured to have 70% less moisture content than average snow, and is considered to be amongst the driest in the world, creating the acclaimed powder conditions for avid skiers to enjoy each season.
Snow Conditions in Steamboat - Long ski season, plus snowmaking
The ski season in Steamboat runs from late November to mid-April. 2008 saw upper and lower slope averages of 189cm, with February and March generally seeing the best snowfall. There is also snowmaking in the resort, with 130 snow cannons covering 375 acres of slopes.
