The picturesque village of St Wolfgang is located beneath the Schafberg Mountain in the Austrian Lake District. Lying on the shores of Lake Wolfgang, the resort is a year-round destination, but thanks to its gentle terrain, is a popular choice for a winter break for families, and those looking to learn to ski in a charming and historic traditional village.
Snow Conditions in St Wolfgang - Convenient village nursery slopes
The village itself is low-lying and located at 540m. Here, complete beginners can make the most of convenient nursery slopes, and 10km of wide gentle terrain, but due to the altitude, conditions can be unreliable especially early and late in the season. For more reliable snow, the main ski area on the Postalm alpine plateau is reached via a 35-minute bus ride, and offers higher slopes and a further 17km of terrain. A quad chairlift takes skiers up to 1,900m, and gives access to a series of blue runs, good for beginners and lower intermediates. More competent skiers can head to Gosau, and the Dachstein West ski area, which is just over an hour away.

St Wolfgang has limited snowmaking over its slopes, with just one snow cannon covering 1km of terrain. The resort sees its best snow during the height of the season, with upper slope averages reaching 292cm in March 2009, which in general is the best month of the year.
