Snow Conditions in St Anton
The resort enjoys one of the best snow records in the Alps, with an abundance of excellent powder each season, and can regularly boast the deepest snow base in the area. Because the weather comes from the west and heads over the Arlberg Mountain range, St Anton sees heavier and more reliable snowfall than many other resorts that sit at a similar altitude.

St Anton Snow Conditions - Plenty of cold weather and sunshine in the Alps
St Anton sees an average of 7m of snowfall during the winter months, with roughly 6m falling on the upper slopes, and the lower slopes receiving around 1m. The average weekly snow depths over the last few years have seen the most falling on the upper slopes during March, with the third week consistently seeing the highest amount of snowfall, and the last week of February seeing the most coverage over the lower levels. St Anton’s' long season runs from November to April, with December and January being the coldest months, when the minimum temperature drops to -8C, and reaches a maximum of 0C. This cold weather guarantees plenty of snowfall, especially powder, and helps to maintain the substantial snow base. February can see highs of 6C, with temperatures still dropping down as -7C, but the resort begins to warms up in March, with highs of 6C and minimum lows of -4C.

Snow Conditions in St Anton - Visit in the spring for 'Firn Week'
Spring still sees great conditions, with the many north-facing slopes in the resort managing to hold the snow well despite the strong sunshine. St Anton’s' south-facing slopes are supplemented by snow-making cannons, helping to maintain their coverage, but they can become icy. The spring snow in St Anton is often referred to as 'firn', with a very thin layer of cover that appears on the main snow pack every morning. This transforms into soft snow (before it eventually turns to slush), and creates ideal conditions for skiing, with 'Firn Week', in late March, a very popular and busy time to visit St Anton.
