Snow Conditions in Soll
The ski resort of Soll is located at the foot of the Wilder Kaiser mountain range in the Kitzbuhel Alps. It sits in a wide sunny basin, and is well-linked to the Ski Welt ski circuit, the largest ski area in Austria, with 250km of pistes. The resorts' low altitude of 703m means that it does not have a great snow record, but, with skiing up to almost 2,000m and extensive snowmaking facilities, ski holidays in Soll remains a favourite with British skiers.
Soll Snow Conditions - Low altitude, but extensive snowmaking on slopes
Soll has some of the highest, steepest slopes in the Ski Welt area, so despite the resorts' low altitude, the snowbase is preserved during good conditions, with the north-facing slopes holding the snow well. Addressing the problem, the Ski Welt area has increased its snowmaking capacity dramatically in recent years, with over 180km of its slopes now covered with over 400 snow cannons, helping to ensure the main slopes and links stay open.
Snow Conditions in Soll - Great slopes for intermediates, good choice for mixed-abilities
The average snowfall in Soll is 3m, with the ski season running from December to mid-April, and the resort seeing plenty of sunshine. January and February have seen the best conditions in Soll over the last couple of years, with 2006 seeing an upper slope average of 192cm, and 2005 seeing 184cm on its top slopes. In general, the slopes of Soll are relatively gentle and best suited to intermediate skiers, with plenty of long cruising runs and tree-lined trails, with the vast Ski Welt providing access to a whole range of terrain for all abilities.
