Snow Conditions In Soldeu - Part of the extensive Grandvalira ski area 

Soldeu is located in easternAndorra, and makes up part of the huge Grandvalira ski area, the largest in the Pyrenees with access to 193km of runs. With a base elevation of 1,800m, the town has a large amount of high-altitude slopes, with skiing up to 2,640m. The resort sees an average snowfall of 2.5m each year and enjoys a ski season which runs from December to April. Soldeu is known for fairly reliable snow conditions, with glorious bright sunny weather due to the high mountain climate with Mediterranean influences.

 

Soldeu Snow Conditions - North-facing, high-altitude slopes 

Skiing for beginners and first-timers is excellent and the southern, almost Mediterranean-like sunshine makes for very pleasant skiing conditions. Days warm up very quickly in Soldeu, with temperatures dropping as soon as the sun goes down, reaching sub-zero lows overnight. The resort has plenty of north-facing slopes however, and with its village located at a height of 1,800m, the snow base does tend to remain good despite the high temperatures. The area is known for its wide open runs down at the resort, with narrow wooded trails higher up, and although especially good for skiing beginners and skiing intermediates, there is some vast off-piste skiing terrain and great powder conditions among the trees - ideal for heli-skiing. 

 

Snow Conditions In Soldeu - Glorious sunny days, increasing snowmaking
Soldeu has 30% snowmaking facilities on its slopes, which seems to be expanding each year, with artificial snow on the descents down to the village. The snow base tends to be packed in the morning and soften up throughout the day, with 2007 seeing upper slope averages of up to 132cm as late as April.
