Skiing For Beginners

Skiing for beginners - choose carefully where to hone your new skills
There are facilities for beginners learning to ski at just about every major ski resort but some resorts are considered ideal for starting out. For instance beginners will enjoy the nursery slopes and plentiful blue slopes of Flaine in France, which although not the most beautiful of Alpine resorts, offers safe and fun skiing for beginners. Similarly Les Arcs in France, which comprises three purpose built resorts, is also great for complete beginners, as is Obergurgl in Austria which has 32 slopes suitable for skiing beginners and an exemplary ski school. Another popular choice for skiing for beginners is popular Andorran ski resort, Soldeu and its adjoining village El Tarter.

Skiing for beginners - book ski lessons in advance
It's recommended to book your ski lessons in advance, or as part of your holiday package, so that you can be sure to make the most of your skiing holiday. Skiing for beginners courses are typically five to seven half-days, so that you practice snowploughs and turns in the morning and are free to practice your new skills on the nursery slopes in the afternoon. There is often as much falling as skiing for beginners in the first couple of days, but patient, sympathetic instructors will tell you that everyone must go through this stage. Unless there are intrusive weather conditions, it's highly likely that within three days, beginners will have learnt the basics of skiing.

Skiing for beginners - enjoy your surroundings too
Skiing for beginners is often as much about the location and enjoying apres-ski activities as embarking on the winter sport itself. If you are new to skiing, and fancy balancing the steep learning curve of leaning to ski, with the pleasures of mountain walking, shopping or fine dining you can choose some excellent places to cover all angles, and give your muscles the chance to recover. For example fashionable resorts such as Chamonix in France and St Anton in Austria offer great nightlife, while the stunning resort of Whistler in the Canadian Rockies offers some of the best culinary treats in British Columbia, and a picturesque car-free village to explore. Skiing for beginners in the ski resorts of Colorado will be complemented with historic walking tours, Wild West evenings and great food.
