Ski Welt Area Snow Conditions

The Ski Welt area covers a vast region of the Wilder Kaiser Mountains linking 8 villages with over 250km of piste. Snow conditions in the Ski Welt area are therefore reliably good as, while the lower, south facing slopes do suffer at times from a lack of snow, there are always plenty of alternative snow-covered options within the Ski Welt area. As your lift pass covers all 8 villages in the area you have constant access to the entire range of slopes and altitudes. Heading out to discover fresh snow over the tip of a mountain is an exhilarating experience and the stunning scenery of the Ski Welt area is well worth exploring in depth.

 

As one of the most popular resorts for a ski holiday in the Ski Welt area, Soll is also a good choice for reliable snow conditions with some of the area’s steepest north-facing slopes. Over the last few years January and February have seen the best snow conditions in Soll. Westendorf, another popular resort in the Ski Welt area, is relatively low-lying at 800m but lifts rise up to 2000m where snow can hit highs of over 200cm. Scheffau and Ellmau are both excellent for beginner and intermediate skiers. Snow-making capabilities in these resorts are some of the best in the Ski Welt Area meaning the snow conditions are often very good despite the lower altitudes.

 

Huge investments into snow-making in the Ski Welt Area over recent years has proved successful at dealing with the problem of a lack of snow on some of the lower, sunnier slopes. With over half of the entire 250km area now covered by snow-making capabilities this is the largest area of snow-making in Austria. Particular recent investment in Scheffau, Ellmau and Going has ensured that over 80% of the piste in these resorts can be covered by man-made snow in less than 70 hours.
