Ski clothing
As well as making sure you look the part whilst you are on a skiing trip, ski clothing is an essential part of a winter holiday, with plenty of choice to keep you feeling warm and comfortable whilst you navigate the slopes. Although it is available in a range of styles and price ranges, ski clothing does not have to be high fashion or cost the earth, with the most important factor being comfort and fit, and effectiveness at keeping you dry and warm. Ski clothing today is available in extremely innovative man-made fabrics, which are highly breathable, yet offer waterproof and windproof qualities and remain very lightweight, whilst offering greater stretch for better fit and performance.

Ski clothing - Choose clothes for comfort, fit and performance, and remember to dress in layers for warmth
The most important thing to remember when considering ski clothing is to wear  layers. Conditions can range from freezing cold with icy winds, to warm and sunny, so it is vital that these layers can be removed quickly once you begin to warm up. Skiing will raise your temperature and make your body sweat, so your ski clothing should begin with a garment made of breathable fabric that 'wicks' perspiration away from your body, so it does not sit next to your skin and make you feel cold. Man-made fibres are ideal for this, as they absorb little water and dry very quickly, whereas cotton dries slowly and becomes cold when wet. The next layer of ski clothing you need is for insulation, such as a lightweight fleece, (if temperatures are really low you could wear two), which is then topped off with a waterproof ski jacket and ski pants. These last pieces of ski clothing are generally your biggest investment, as they act as your protection, shielding your body from the snow, wind and rain, and keeping your dry.

Ski clothing - Make sure you also have the right accessories
Waterproof gloves are an essential part of your ski clothing, with the fit needing to be tight enough to grip your poles without being uncomfortable, and proper ski socks are also a must, with synthetic fabrics helping to keep feet dry and warm. As the majority of body heat is lost through the head, ski clothing must include a hat or, even better, a protective helmet, with most skiers choosing to wear goggles that offer protection against blowing snow, wind and UV rays.
