Silvretta - High-altitude Austrian skiing on the Swiss border
The Silvretta ski area is located in the Paznaun Valley in Austria, on the Swiss border, and incorporates the resorts of Ischgl, Galtur, Samnaun, Kappl and See. Known for its high-altitude slopes and extremely reliable snow record, the Silvretta ski area is well-suited to all levels of skier, from the die-hard party-goer looking for serious challenges, to families in search of a child-friendly base with plenty of charm. The resorts in the valley retain a distinctly German feel, however the area is gaining popularity with British visitors each season.
 
Silvretta - Snow-sure slopes, great area for ski touring
Skiing in Silvretta comprises almost 100 runs over 330km, with an impressive 90% of all its slopes located above 2,000m. The main resort in the Silvretta ski area is Ischgl, a town best-known for its nightlife, but with excellent terrain for intermediate skiers and snowboarders, and a popular destination for ski touring. Ischgl boasts one of the fastest and most efficient lift systems in the Alps. The skiing in Ischgl runs up to 2,870m, and the 230km of terrain is best suited to more advanced skiers, with plenty of long cruising runs and a host of off-piste terrain for experts. Ischgl is almost entirely car-free, with visitors using the pedestrian tunnels and moving walkways to travel around the town. Other smaller resorts in the valley include Galtun, a charming family-friendly village with a much slower pace, and great uncrowded slopes for skiing for beginners. Silvretta boasts a long ski season, running from November until May, with conditions on the slopes enhanced by extensive snow-making.  
 
Silvretta - Head to Ischgl for some of the best après-ski in Austria 
Apres-ski in Silvretta varies tremendously, and ranges from quiet taverns and inns in villages such as Galtur and Kappl, to an international scene in the world-famous Ischgl, where there are bars and clubs lining the resort, and a permanent party atmosphere. The town is also is well-known for its renowned winter concerts attracting plenty of big stars each season. There's designer shopping for the fashion-conscious in the resort, as well as great duty-free shopping in the linked Swiss resort of Samnaun. Silvretta also offers a host of accommodation options, from family-run guesthouses to an abundance of luxury hotels and apartments.
