Silver Star ski resort sits at the northern end of the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia, Canada. The valley is blessed with a dry sunny climate, and in the winter the resort is known for its abundance of reliable snow. The mountains see an average of 7m of snowfall each year, which, combined with the average daytime temperature of -3, creates ideal conditions for winter sports. The Canadian Rockies are renowned for their exceptional champagne powder snow, with Silver Star being no exception, and seeing very light and fluffy quality snow each season.        
 
Snow Conditions in Silver Star - Good for mixed-ability groups, ideal for intermediates
The resort sits at an altitude of 1,152m, and offers 3,000 acres of terrain up to a height of 1,914m. Skiing at Silver Star is spread over three areas - Vance Creek, Silver Woods and Putnam Creek - offering slopes for all levels of skier and boarder, and, with excellent cross-country terrain, the resort is well-suited to all types of winter sport. The best area for beginners is Vance Creek, home to Discovery Park with its wide gentle runs and south-facing slopes, whilst Silver Woods is ideal intermediate terrain. About half of all runs at Silver Star are rated as intermediate, making it a perfect resort for those skiers looking for long cruising runs, and the chance to test out more challenging blue and red runs. Experts are best served by the steeper slopes in the Putnam Creek area, full of big moguls and powder tree skiing.
 
Snow Reports in Silver Star - Quiet uncrowded and well-maintained slopes
Upper slope weekly averages in Silver Star were 180cm in 2008, reaching a height of 255cm in March, with lower slope averages seeing highs of 163cm the same month. Silver Star is usually the first ski resort in British Columbia to open for the season, thanks to the heavy snow that usually arrives in mid-November. Grooming is of top quality at the resort, and the slopes are generally quiet and uncrowded, with few queues for the lifts, even at the busiest times. Silver Star also offers 5km of terrain for night skiing.
