Snow Conditions In Serre Chevalier - High-altitude resort, known for reliable snow
Skiing in Serre Chevalier is comprised of 13 villages that stretch for 6km along the Guisane Valley, located in the southern French Alps. Close to the Italian border, the south facing valley is known for its abundant sunshine, boasting 300 sunny days a year. A high altitude resort, with the villages ranging from 1350m-1500m, the skiing in Serre Chevalier takes place up to 2,800m and the resort enjoys a long ski season, beginning in November and ending at the end of April.
Serre Chevalier Snow Conditions - North facing slopes, plenty of sunshine
With a ski area encompassing 250km, Serre Chevalier is one of the largest ski areas in France, boasting a wide range of terrain both above and below the tree line. Known for its forested areas which cover almost two-thirds of the mountains, the terrain is heavily wooded with plenty of attractive tree-lined slopes. As well as creating an enjoyable skiing experience, the woodlands provide shelter in extremely windy or snowy conditions, and ensure that skiing is possible even in poor weather. The mountains also offer wide open bowls on the upper slopes. Serre Chevalier offers mainly north and north-easterly facing slopes, which help to retain good snow coverage on its high altitude pistes.

The average snowfall in the resort is 853cm. Upper slope averages in March and April tend to be the highest, ranging from 145cm up to 252cm in recent years. Serre Chevalier boasts extensive snowmaking facilities, and its excellent snow conditions are guaranteed by over 400 snow cannons covering 130 hectares on the lower slopes.
