Snow Conditions in Selva - Reliable ski slopes, great location in Dolomites
Selva sits in the South Tyrol region of Italian Dolomites, at the foot of the Sella Massif, in Val Gardena. Along with Ortisei and Santa Cristina, it is one of three towns in the valley that make up Val Gardena - the largest ski resort on the famed Sella Ronda ski circuit. Selva offers convenient access to this challenging circuit, and gives visitors an ideal base from which to explore the vast Dolomites Superski area, with its 1,220km of terrain.
Snow Conditions in Selva - Highest village in Val Gardena
Selva lies at an altitude of 1,563m, and is the highest village in Val Gardena. Skiing takes place up to a height of 2,518m, with 175km of local slopes to explore. The terrain in Selva comprises a mixture of both wooded trails and wide open bowls, and incorporates mainly intermediate level runs. Selva is the starting point for the 24km Sella Ronda circuit, and ideally placed for competent skiers wishing to head out in either direction around the Sella Massif, and tackle the most well-known ski tour in the Dolomites. The resort also boasts many World Cup downhill runs, and offers a number of steep slopes and off-piste terrain, set amongst spectacular scenery. Selva also offers access to the Marmolada Glacier, with its high-altitude snowsure slopes that reach 3,270m.
Snow Conditions in Selva - Excellent snowmaking facilities throughout ski area
The ski season runs from early December to early April. Upper slope averages in Selva reached 119cm during the 2007-2008 season, with February and March seeing the most snow. The whole of the Val Gardena area has invested heavily in snowmaking facilities, with 90% of Selvas' slopes covered by over 400 snow cannons, ensuring fantastic conditions throughout the season.
