Skiing in Scheffau
Scheffau, a peaceful, almost sleepy, village situated in the heart of the Tyrol region, between the Wilder Kaiser mountains and the Hinterstein Lake, is one of the villages that make up the ski area known as the Ski Welt region.  Together with Soll, Ellmau, Going, Ittel, Hopfgarten, Brixen im Thale, and Westendorf, Scheffau helps to make up Austrias’ largest interconnecting ski area – a massive 250 km of pistes, two-thirds of which have excellent snowmaking facilities, served by 93 lifts. The resort is best suited to couples and families, who want a relaxed, laid-back week in a truly rustic setting with extensive skiing within their reach.

Skiing in Scheffau – The Slopes
The skiing in Scheffau is really best suited to intermediate level skiers, and half of the 20 runs are dedicated to them. At 752m, the resort is fairly low lying, but the fact that the slopes of the Brandstadl snowbowl are north facing tends to create good snow conditions.
The lifts are a short bus ride from the village, but the shuttle service has a reputation for being efficient and frequent, and Scheffau seems to be the best starting point to the Ski Welt region as village guests get priority entrance to the 8 person gondola , which can get very busy. There are gentle nursery slopes for beginners, and intermediate skiers will delight in the choice of runs available to them, starting at the top of the Brandstadl mountain with varied terrain, some winding through trees and others with steep narrow descents. The entire Ski Welt area will provide endless skiing opportunities, especially for the more competent skier – experts should definitely try the Hohe Salve area with its’ notoriously steep plunging drops. On the same mountain area above Soll you’ll find the best area for snowboarders – the highest number of specifically manufactured boarding runs, together with a fun park and three half pipes.

Skiing in Scheffau – The Apres-Ski
As you’d imagine for a resort of this size, the apres-ski is very low-key and relaxed. Most of the apres-ski action in Schheffau centres around the hotel bars, which are well patronized when the lifts close for the day – or try the Leitner Pub or the Pub Royal. With 11 restaurants mainly serving Tyrolean specialities, you’ll find plenty of authentic Austrian cuisine in the small resort of  Scheffau, and only one disco, the Disco Pub Kaiseralm, which is open until the early hours of the morning. There is limited shopping in Scheffau, but the nearby towns of Kitzbuhel and St Johann offer much better choice, and day trips to Salzburg or Innsbruck make a fun day out away from the slopes. Other activities to enjoy whilst skiing in Scheffau are ice skating, tobogganing, exploring the cleared hiking trails, visiting the sports complex, paragliding and hang gliding.
