Located in Piedmont in the southwestern Italian Alps, the ski resort of Sauze d'Oulx is located in the Susa Valley above the village of Oulx, close to the French border. The town sits on a high west-facing plateau, seeing plenty of sunshine during the winter months, and is surrounded by larch forests. The largest resort in the Milky Way, (Via Lattea) Sauze d'Oulx is an ideal departure point for the vast ski area with its 400km of terrain.
Snow Conditions in Sauze d'Oulx - Excellent intermediate terrain
Sauze d'Oulx sits at an altitude of 1,503m, and offers skiing up to 2,825m. It has an average annual snowfall of 5m, and its snow-sure north-facing slopes boast an excellent snow record throughout the season. The town is known best as an intermediate resort, with over half the runs rated as blue and red, and offers a mix of wide open bowls and heavily wooded pistes running through the trees. Beginners have good nursery slopes in the village or up the mountain in Sportina, whilst expert skiers can explore the vast range of off-piste options with a ski guide. Sharing a regional lift pass with Sestriere, Claviere and Montgenevre, Sauze d'Oulx offers extensive skiing in the Milky Way, with slopes for all levels of skier and boarder.
Snow Conditions in Sauze d'Oulx - Snowmaking on almost half its slopes
Sauze d'Oulx is open from December to April, with February usually seeing the best snow. Upper slope averages in the resort reached 120cm in 2007-8, seeing 60cm on the lower slopes. Conditions are guaranteed throughout the season, thanks to the snowmaking in Sauze d'Oulx, with 40% of the slopes covered.
