Santa Caterina snow conditions - Long ski racing history, steep vertical
Santa Caterina, together with Bormio and Livigno, is part of the Alta Valtellina ski area, and offers skiing over 40km, with 11 runs mainly catering for intermediate skiers. The slopes are north-facing, helping to maintain the good snow base throughout the season, and retain optimum conditions. Thanks to the resorts' vertical drop of over 1,000m, the village has enjoyed a long ski racing history and produced many champions, as well as hosting World Cup events. The vertical descent is accessed by gondola, and offers 3 black runs incorporating 15km of terrain. There are long cruising runs to enjoy here, many through scenic woodlands, and an enclosed nursery area for beginners. Santa Caterina is also a major centre for cross-country skiing.
