Saalbach Snow Conditions
Saalbach Snow Conditions – Vast ski area, excellent lift system
Part of the vast Snow Circus ski area, Saalbach is one of Austria´s most popular resorts among British skiers, attracted by its strong snow record and an excellent lift system that links Saalbach with its neighbouring villages. A total of 300km of prepared runs covers north and south-facing mountainsides, and lifts and runs connect picturesque Saalbach with the neighbouring resort of Hinterglemm. Snow conditions in Saalbach are particularly appealing for intermediates, but there are challenges to suit most skiers – Saalbach itself presents fewer challenges for experienced skiers than Hinterglemm. Thanks to the lift system, skiers in Saalbach can easily ski from one village to the next, and it is also possible to ski down to a third village, Leongang, on the opposite side of the mountain.
Snow Conditions in Saalbach – Reliable snow record
Snow reliability in Saalbach-Hinterglemm is better than most of the surrounding Tyrol district. The resort is considered to be in a ´snow pocket´, and a total of 350 snow cannons ensure skiers are never left high and dry. The slopes, while sometimes crowded, are well-maintained, ensuring excellent piste conditions for skiers in Saalbach. With skiing above and below the tree line, Saalbach is influenced by the cold moist arctic fronts from early November, which brings good snowfalls by early December. The season lasts till late March.
Saalbach Snow Conditions – Challenges at every level
Intermediates on a ski holiday in Saalbach will be in their element. Blue and red runs can be found in abundance, and intermediates can traverse the entire ski area in a loop – skiing up, down and across the valley. Beginners in Saalbach are well-catered for too, with two nursery slopes to be found right next to the pedestrianised centre of the village. Further nursery slopes can be found immediately above both Saalbach and its sister resort, Hinterglemm. Improved beginners will enjoy the long blue run from the Schattberg Ost down into the village of Vorderglemm – a run of almost 7km. You can still find plenty of challenges – especially on the north-facing side of the valley. Additionally, the 4km black run beneath the Schatterberg Cable Car is guaranteed to get experts adrenaline pumping.
