For speed freaks, there are numerous race skiing resorts to choose from throughout Europe and North America. In Austria, St. Anton in the Arlberg region is considered to be the birthplace of modern ski racing by many, and offers tough terrain and a party-like atmosphere. Schladming, part of the Ski Amade region, is one of the most well-known race skiing resorts, and a former host of the international Alpine Ski World Cup, World Ski Championships and Winter Special Olympics, boasting a total of four interlinked mountains offering over 100km of piste, with a charming medieval town centre and plenty for non-skiers to do. Kitzbuhel, a famous race skiing resort, is home to the renowned Hahnenkamm World Cup Downhill course, and remains a great all-round ski centre for all abilities, whilst Chamonix is another popular race skiing resort, with its Le Stade and La Piste Du Stade slalom trails and aggressive steep terrain. The US and Canada also boasts excellent conditions for race skiing resorts, with world-class ski centres such as Vail and Beaver Creek in the US, and Whistler, Banff and Lake Louise in Canada known for their championship ski runs.
 

Courses in a race skiing resort are groomed specifically for competitions, and are treated with water or salt to make them more challenging and enable fast speeds. Skiers have to manoeuvre steep turns and difficult jumps on a single run, making the sport hugely entertaining for spectators in the race skiing resort. Race skiing resorts give skiers the chance to experience some of the most famous downhill ski trails in the world, with runs like the Hahnenkamm and the Kandahar offering up the challenge to adventurous skiers on their winter holiday.
