Snow Conditions in Quebec - Cold weather in northern Canadian province
The province of Quebec lies in the north-east corner of Canada, and has both an arctic and subarctic climate, with long cold winters receiving plenty of snow. Varied ski resorts offer diverse skiing, with the best-known centre of Mont Tremblant boasting a European-style centre and plenty of great terrain for all levels of skier and boarder. Ski seasons vary, with most resorts in Quebec open from mid-November to March or April.
Quebec Snow Conditions - Lower mountains, steep verticals, tree-lined runs
The mountains of Quebec are lower than those elsewhere, with villages located from 152m - 806m, but the slopes offer extensive skiing accessed by good lift systems. Being situated so far north, temperatures can be very cold when skiing in Quebec, and the weather brings plenty of snowfall throughout the province and reliable conditions. Terrain is suitable for all skiers, with intermediate skiers and advanced skiers having the most choice, and the mountains boasting plenty of tree-lined runs through the scenic forests, as well as some steep verticals. In addition to the all-round resort of Mont Tremblant, with its international appeal and extensive terrain for all abilities, Quebec offers some varied ski resorts. Stoneham, located in a horseshoe-shaped valley, is protected from winds, and known for its excellent terrain parks, whilst the high-altitude slopes of Le Massif offer a training ground for the national team, thanks to the greatest vertical in the region of 770m. Quaint resorts such as Owl's Head, Sutton and Bromont offer family-friendly zones throughout attractive wooded terrain, and Mont Sainte-Anne is known for its fantastic night skiing.
Snow Conditions in Quebec - Plenty of natural snow, and snowmaking facilities
The region sees plenty of snow throughout the season, with average snowfall amounts varying by resort. Mont Tremblant sees an annual average of 381cm, with Le Massif seeing 629cm, and St. Marie 762cm. Quebec has invested in snowmaking in its resorts, with Mont Saint-Saveur staying open until early June, thanks to the extensive snowmaking facilities on 80% of its slopes. Upper slope averages in Mont Tremblant and Mont Sainte-Anne reached between 80cm - 100cm during the 2009 - 2010 ski season.
