Powder Skiing Resorts

Powder Skiing Resorts - Plenty of fresh untouched fluffy snow on their mountains
Avid skiers head off each season in search of the best conditions, with the many powder skiing resorts throughout Europe and North America attracting experts and off-piste adventurers alike. Powder snow is dry and loose freshly-fallen snow that has not been compacted, and gives skiers the feeling of skiing on air, whilst cushioning them when they fall. Powder skiing resorts do require a different technique, but are ideal for more advanced skiers to practice carving and test out new tricks, and learn more speed control.

Powder Skiing Resorts
- From Verbier, St. Anton and Val Thorens to Jackson Hole and Steamboat
Some of the best light and fluffy powder is found on the steepest and more challenging mountains that are suitable for more advanced skiers, with these powder skiing resorts offering extensive opportunities for off-piste skiing. Many powder skiing resorts are also home to varied trails and more diverse terrain, and would suit intermediates skiers keen to learn a new technique and add powder skiing to their repertoire. Famous powder skiing resorts include internationally-renowned ski centres such as Verbier and Chamonix, and St. Anton and Lech in the Arlberg region, all established resorts, with a wealth of steep terrain and sensational off-piste skiing, and all known for their legendary powder conditions. Other powder skiing resorts of note include Val d'Isere, Tignes, La Plagne and Courchevel 1650, as well as Val Thorens, one of the highest ski resorts, located at 2,300m. North America is home to some exceptional powder skiing resorts such as Mammoth, Whistler and Squaw Valley, with giants such as Jackson Hole offering hard-core conditions for serious skiers. Colorado, the home of the original champagne powder found in the Rocky Mountains, offers excellent all-round powder ski resorts such as Copper Mountain, Arapahoe Basin, Steamboat Springs and Aspen.

Powder Skiing Resorts - Follow a guide for a safe enjoyable experience
Powder skiing resorts attract adventurous skiers who choose to stray from the groomed trails and explore the untouched terrain of the mountains. Powder skiing resorts are best explored with an experienced guide who can show skiers the ideal spots that lay off the beaten track, and allow for safe enjoyable journeying through untracked snow. Most powder skiing resorts offer lessons and tuition in navigating off-piste terrain, and many are also ideal for heli-skiing holidays. The best conditions at many powder skiing resorts can be any time from January to March, when there is an abundance of fresh fluffy powder.
