Skiing in Plagne Villages
Plagne Villages, situated at 2,000m, in the newest of the purpose–built villages that make up the popular resort of La Plagne. Linked to Plagne Soleil, the two villages make up one of the 10 high-altitude bases of La Plagne, and are located just above the main village of Plagne Centre. Plagne Villages is the site of many apartment complexes, mostly small traditional Savoyard chalets, all with doorstep skiing, and all ideally placed for lift access into the vast ski area. Although there are no other facilities found in Plagne Villages, a convenient public transport system ferries skiers to the shops, bars and restaurants found in the other villages within the resort.

Skiing in Plagne Villages – The Mountains
La Plagne is the single largest ski area in the world, with 124 runs found throughout the 225km of pistes. An intermediate paradise, with over half the runs rated as blues, La Plagne is a favourite for its’ sheer size, altitude and massive vertical drop. With its’ close proximity to two glaciers and north facing slopes, La Plagne has some of the most snow-sure slopes in Europe and this, together with spectacular views over Mont Blanc, provides an excellent environment in which to ski. Beginners can choose from 11 wide gentle green runs, and La Plagne offers first-rate tuition from one of the many ski schools and a free lift in each of the villages. From Plagne Villages, it is an easy trip to Plagne Centre where most of the lifts start, and skiers can take advantage of one of the most sophisticated lift systems in the world to transport them quickly and efficiently around the slopes. Most of the skiing in La Plagne is above the tree-line, and there are plenty of wonderful cruising trails through the forests and back down to the lower levels of the resort. Experts have a fairly limited number of runs, but some fantastic challenging verticals on the Bellecote Glacier, easily accessible from Plagne Villages, and a huge amount of off-piste to choose from. For those who wish to explore further afield, the Vanoise Express high-speed gondola now links La Plagne to Les Arcs, creating a further 200 km of pistes within the newly founded Paradiski region.

Skiing in Plagne Villages – The Après-ski
Plagne Villages provides an excellent base in which to stay, with the attractive modern chalets and houses in this peaceful area offering fabulous views of the mountains and direct access to the slopes. A shuttlebus takes residents to and from the main village of Plagne Centre, where there is a wide choice of authentic French restaurants, bars to suit all tastes and shopping opportunities. The other villages of La Plagne offer a great choice of activities, including swimming, ice-skating, bowling, snowshoeing, hangliding and paragliding, again easily accessible from Plagne Villages. The brave can try out the Olympic bobsleigh track at Plagne 1800, which is now open to the public.
