Passo Tonale Snow Conditions
Snow Conditions in Passo Tonale - One of Italy's highest ski resorts
The purpose-built resort of Passo Tonale lies in the western region of Val di Sole in the Italian Alps, and is part of the Skirama Adamello-Brenta Area. One of Italy's highest resorts, Passo Tonale is known for its snow-sure slopes, thanks to its close proximity to the Presena Glacier, with guaranteed snow and a long ski season running from late October until May.
Passo Tonale Snow Conditions - Excellent terrain for beginners and intermediates
Sitting at an altitude of 1,880m, and with a top elevation of 3,010m, the resort offers reliable snow conditions throughout its long season. There are 30 runs served by 30 lifts, and, with plenty of skiing above 2,500m, visitors have lots of high-altitude terrain to keep them busy. Most of the runs are above the treeline, and the south-facing slopes are generally wide and blessed with sunshine, although conditions can be quite windy at this height. There are virtually no queues in the resort, and the modern and efficient lift system transports skiers and boarders around with ease. Best suited to beginners and intermediates, there is a choice of 6 lifts at village level for those just starting out, and a good number of long cruising runs with spectacular views. Advanced skiers have the most limited terrain, although there are some challenging blacks and some thrilling off-piste, as well as the high-altitude slopes of the Presena Glacier. Summer skiing holidays are also available on the glacier.
Snow Conditions in Passo Tonale - Guaranteed snow throughout its long season
Despite its high-altitude location, the resort also has snowmaking on 100km of its slopes, served by 200 cannons, meaning guaranteed conditions throughout its long season. Upper slope averages for 2009 reached over 500cm from February to April, with the best conditions seen in March, when the resort saw averages of 548cm.
