Snow Conditions
Pamporovo is located in the heart of the Rhodopi Mountains in south-western Bulgaria and is the smallest of the country’s' three ski resorts. Purpose-built at an altitude of 1,650m, the resort enjoys a scenic location amongst pine forests and boasts snow sure slopes throughout the season. Pamporovo is the sunniest ski resort in Southern Europe, and enjoys wonderfully mild winter conditions, heavily influenced by the Mediterranean and Aegean Seas (Greece lies just 120kms away). The resort claims 270 days of sunshine each year, with 120 of those during the ski season.
Pamporovo Snow Conditions - Sunniest slopes in southern Europe
With the resort located at 1,650m, much of the skiing in Pamporovo takes place at a top elevation of almost 2,000m. This height ensures that the mountains receive reliable snowfall throughout the season, and the snowbase is retained on the mainly north and north-westerly slopes, despite the extensive sunshine. With an average temperature of -3C, the mild conditions and good snowfall create favourable conditions for beginners, with the mainly wide gentle slopes providing an excellent base on which to learn. The heavily forested slopes provide sheltered runs, and help to ensure against avalanches.
Snow Conditions in Pamporovo - Mild climate, long season and great runs for beginners
The winter ski season runs from December to mid-April, with the resort receiving an average annual snowfall of 1.5m. Pamporovo has also installed snowmaking facilities over some of its slopes to help ensure a reasonable cover throughout this time.
