Ortisei Resort Facilities
Ski school
Ortisei boasts a highly-regarded ski and snowboard school, with qualified, English-speaking instructors on hand to offer group classes and inidividual lessons at all levels of ability. Group lessons are tailored to suit the experience and skills of skiers in Ortisei, from absolute beginners through to experienced skiers and boarders who want to perfect their skills. One-to-one classes are ideal for those who want to benefit from a more personal approach, and personal instructors offer individual classes not only in on-piste technique but also in Alpine skiing, snowboarding, freeride, fun-carving, racing technique, cross-country and telemark skiing. Director of the Ortisei Ski & Snowboard School is Lotte Nogler – former member of the Italian National Ski Team and Italian Junior Downhill Champion.
Children
Families on a ski holiday in Ortisei will be very well looked after. The resort’s Ski and Snowboard School offers lessons for children aged three and above. From the age of four to 16, children and teenagers can take part in group lessons for all ability levels – from young beginners through to experienced teens and older children. The school’s Mini Club accepts children from two years old, and offers fun activities – such as snowman-building and tobogganing – daily. There is also a creche in the resort, and hotels can provide lists of qualified baby-sitters.
Dining
Whether you’re looking for traditional Italian pizza and pasta, fine dining or just a quick sandwich on the slopes, you’ll find it in Ortisei. The resort is essentially the hub for eating and drinking activity in the wider Selva/Val Gardena ski area, and as a result offers any number of spots to enjoy a bite to eat or a more formal meal. Skiers in Ortisei will find a cluster of good restaurants, as well as pubs and bars selling food, in the part-pedestrianised town centre, and there are plentiful snack bars to be found on the slopes themselves.
Apres-ski
Apres-ski in Ortisei is lively throughout the season, with the resort’s many cosy pubs, plush wine bars and busy nightclubs offering entertainment well into the small hours. Many pubs and bars double as restaurant, and some get busy as soon as the lifts close – with the action not winding up until 4 or 5 am. While many people like to head straight for the slope-side taverns and party with their boots still on, several of the nightclubs are more formal affairs where dressing to impress is the order of the day. Tobogganing, sleigh rides, tennis and squash are among the family-friendly apres-ski activities available in Ortisei.
Town facilities
Although it is a historic town, Ortisei is not stuck in the past, and skiers will find the town well-equipped with modern conveniences such as internet access. A doctor’s surgery, pharmacist, post office, bank and several cash points are all available to skiers in Ortisei.
The slopes
With good nursery slopes, abundant blue runs and some more challenging red runs, Ortisei is a paradise for beginners, intermediates and more confident skiers alike. There are good off-piste opportunities, with plenty of cross-country skiing, and the resort is well-positioned for easy access to neighbouring ski regions such as the Sella Ronda circuit. Snowboarders haven’t been neglected either – boarders in Ortisei can take advantage of a snowboard park complete with half-pipe.
Shopping
Ortisei is famous for its beautiful wood carvings, widely available to shoppers in the resort. As well as numerous tourist-friendly wood carving shops, the resort boasts several fashion boutiques and well-equipped sports stores, as well as butchers, bakers and delicatessens. The wider Val Gardena region offers skiers in Ortisei access to more than 100 shops.
