Matterhorn Things To Do
Activities on and around the Matterhorn are extensive, with the first-rate Zermatt well-deserving of its reputation as the top Swiss ski resort and truly boasting something for everyone. Non-skiers are extremely well-served here, and the dining and après-ski scene is exceptional.

Dining
The Matterhorn boasts a wonderful choice of on-mountain dining, with charming rustic huts and traditional chalets serving up hearty Alpine fare. In and around the villages and towns are cosy lodges, cafes, grills and pizzerias, along with Michelin-starred establishments and romantic gourmet restaurants. Specialities of the region include fondue and rosti, with the mountain fare featuring plenty of local sausages, air-dried beef and cheeses.
Apres-Ski
Again, something for everyone, with an endless array of drinking holes including bars, pubs, local inns, clubs and discos, ranging from cosy and rustic to sophisticated and international, offering an excellent choice of places to visit after the lifts close, and throughout the night, too. The region also has a great choice of casual cafes, serving coffee and hot chocolate, and delicious Swiss and Italian cakes and pastries.
The quintessential ski resort of Zermatt is known for its old-fashioned streets and car-free village centre, is an ideal base for a holiday in the Matterhorn, and offers a charming setting with a sophisticated flair. There's everything from organised walking tours and informative Alpine museums, to visits to the Ice Grotto, extensive shopping in the designer stores and people-watching in the cafes and coffee shops. Cervinia is a purpose-built upmarket town, offering a cheaper alternative to the slopes than its pricier Swiss neighbour.
For day trips, visit the market in Aosta, or the local craft fair held in January, or travel to Geneva, Lausanne, Turin or Milan.
