There's shopping in the quaint centre of Bethel, with many places to buy souvenirs and goods such as locally-made tourmaline jewellery, furniture, crafts and New England trinkets, and the classic town, with its white-steepled churches and historic buildings makes a good day trip. Other sightseeing opportunities include Portland and Boston in Massachusetts.

 

Restaurants include cafes, pubs and breweries, as well as rustic restaurants and grills, serving everything from snack food to upscale gourmet cuisine. Larger towns such as Bethel near Sunday River boast an eclectic range of international restaurants.

 

Mainly busy at the weekends, apres-ski in Maine centres on cosy bars and lively pubs with many featuring live music and sporting events. The White Cap Fun Centre in Sunday River offers plenty of family entertainment, and regular fireworks displays, whilst there are live concerts throughout the season, and annual events such as the Reggae Weekend in Sugarloaf attract plenty of visitors.
