Ski school
The ski school in Madesimo is held in very high regard, and with good reason. Founded in 1934 and officially recognised by the Italian Winter Sports Association in 1938, the school was the first in Europe to achieve IS: 9001 certification. The team of instructors includes Italo Pedroncelli, who has appeared three times with the Italian Olympic ski team, and there are also dedicated snowboard instructors at the school. Group classes and private lessons can be arranged at the ski school at Madesimo, and instructors can offer specialist private lessons for disabled skiers.

Children
The ski school in Madesimo offers lessons for children aged four-years-old and above, with ski and snowboard classes arranged by age and ability. Note that the school requires young skiers below the age of 14 to wear a helmet although there is no kindergarten or crèche at the ski school, most hotels can arrange babysitting services and many have crèche facilities. Tourist information can provide a list of accredited childminders to families on a ski holiday in Madesimo.

Dining
The abundant mountainside café bars in Madesimo offer good value midday dining, and the local pizzocheri dish - a hearty plate of buckwheat pasta, cabbage, potatoes and cheese -  is great for hungry skiers in need of refuelling. A handful of pizzerias and simple creperies are ideal for families on a skiing holiday in Madesimo, while the fine dining scene centres around the restaurants of the resort’s many good hotels. There are eight restaurants in the resort, serving everything from pizzocheri to French haute cuisine.

Apres-ski
Apres-ski in Madesimo is a laid-back, unpretentious affair, with little of the posing and preening that is associated with many Italian ski resorts. The compact nature of the resort makes for a friendly apres-ski scene, with the town’s nine bars and two nightclubs always a good bet for a lively night out. Fondue nights, live music and the occasional burst of karaoke can be expected on the apres-ski scene in Madesimo.

Town facilities
Skiers in Madesimo will find two decent supermarkets, good sports stores and fashion boutiques, a bank, pharmacy and tourist information within the town centre of this compact resort.

The slopes
Madesimo is a well-managed resort, whose 12 lifts offer access to 1398 metres of vertical descent.  Skiers in Madesimo can enjoy 32 pistes, with a combined length of 55 km. There are a further 10 km of cross country ski trails to be explored during a ski holiday in Madesimo. Although the resort enjoys a relatively high altitude of 1550 meters, it is best suited to intermediates and beginners. The highest lift at Madesimo reaches 2880km, and the longest run is 3km. Advanced skiers have less choice, although the challenging Canalone piste is enough to keep anybody on their toes. Snowboarders are very well catered for – there are two parks and a total of four half pipes. Again, the snowboarding here is most suitable for those at a beginner or intermediate level.
