The numerous restaurants and pizzerias serve a range of good hearty dishes, and offer classic Italian as well as cuisine with a heavy German influence - ideal food after a hard day on the slopes.
Apres-Ski
Macugnaga's après-ski scene is quiet and informal, and focuses on a number of bars, including a couple of lively spots popular with skiers and boarders, and one disco.
Macugnaga is made up of two towns, Staffa and Pecetto, with the larger Staffa being the heart of the resort and home to all the facilities and après-ski venues, many of which are set around the market square. The villages date back to the thirteenth century, and the resort has plenty of historic parts of town, and a museum to visit.
There are a number of regional shops in which to browse, and cafes and coffee shops for leisurely drinks and snacks.
Being so close to the border, there's a distinct Swiss influence in the resort. Day trips to Switzerland are possible, with many visitors heading to the charming resort of Saas Fee, just across the border.
