Macugnaga Snow Conditions - Ski area in two regions, quiet uncrowded slopes
Sitting at an altitude of 1,327m, there's skiing up to a top elevation of 3,000m at Macagnaga, with a total of 15 runs over 38km of piste. The skiing is best suited to beginners and lower intermediate skiers, with the skiable terrain made up of 2 green runs, 5 blues, 6 reds and 2 blacks - all served by a system of 12 lifts. With quiet and uncrowded slopes even during the high season, Macugnaga is an attractive prospect for families, and its convenient nursery slopes and wide open terrain make it a popular resort for novices. The skiing is divided up into two sections, located at each of the two villages that make up the resort, each just 15 minutes apart and linked by ski bus. Staffa is the main centre, and from here skiers can access Monte Moro by cable-car, where long sweeping reds and deep powder fields offer challenges to intermediates, whilst the smaller quieter village, Pecetto, boasts easier terrain in the Belvedere region, better suited to beginners. Guiding is available, and more competent skiers can make the trip over the Swiss border to Saas-Fee from Staffa. Experts can navigate the small number of black runs, explore the off-piste terrain, or try heli-skiing. The slopes remain quiet and uncrowded even during the high season, making Macugnaga a popular spot for families.
