Macugnaga Skiing Holidays At the foot of the impressive Monte Rosa is the Italian ski resort of Macugnaga, set at 1330m Macugnaga is just south of the Swiss border. Macugnaga is a ski resort made up of two picturesque villages, Staffa is the largest and Pecetto the quieter of the two. Each village has its own ski area and there is a ski bus running between them. Macugnaga is a ski resort with good facilities for beginners and being relatively quiet and inexpensive is a great location for family ski holidays.
Macugnaga ski holidays There are good ski schools in Macugnaga and nursery slopes in both areas of the ski resort making this a great location to learn to ski. There is 40kms of pisted ski runs in Macugnaga and the easier runs are in the Pecetto ski area. Intermediate skiers in Macugnaga can find some good challenges higher up and can enjoy the uncrowded slopes; the longest ski run is approx 7km. There are limited runs for advanced skiers although some good off piste skiing is available and there is heli-skiing locally. Macugnaga is a good resort for learning to snowboard as the runs are long and wide and there is a terrain park but experienced borders will find Macugnaga limiting. There is 21kms of cross country skiing available.
Apres ski in Macugnaga The après ski in Macugnaga is spread between the two villages, there are a few cheap restaurants and bars and a club staying open late but it is fairly quiet. There are a few resort activities to enjoy including torchlight descents, ice skating, tobogganing and parapenting.
