Livigno Snow Conditions – High altitude skiing
The highest permanently-inhabited ski resort in Europe, snow conditions in Livigno are excellent throughout the season, which runs from late November to early May. The historic, picturesque town resort sits at 1820 metres, and the highest lift reaches 3000 metres. Livigno lies to the south of the Swiss border and St Moritz, in the windswept valley of Spöl. Beginners and intermediates on a ski holiday in Livigno will immediately feel at home. The vast majority of skiing is above the tree line, and the resort boasts a range of ‘motorway’ slopes with well-groomed pistes and sunny conditions, well suited to the beginner, intermediate skier and snowboarder. A good ski school and valley-side nursery slopes are perfect for absolute beginners. The 115 km of piste ski runs in Livigno includes 26 blue runs and 25 red runs. More advanced skiers can hone their skills on the six black runs in Livigno, as well as taking advantage of 40km of cross-country trails. Some good tree runs offer further challenges to advanced skiers in Livigno. Boarders in Livigno will appreciate the resort’s snowboard park, complete with half pipe.
Snow Conditions in Livigno – Modern and effective lift system
The lift system at Livigno is modern and effective - with a total uplift capacity of 47060 skiers per hour; the highest lift reaches 3,000m and the lowest 1,800m. The total vertical drop measures 1,200m. The resort is spread out over four small villages, and the southern end is linked by a two-stage gondola to the Mottolino ski area at 2,800 metres. The eastern side gives gondola access to a wide range of slopes for intermediate and advanced skiers at the Monte della Neve. A regular shuttle bus service links the two sides.
