Leysin Skiing Holidays
Leysin, a traditional farming village in the Vaudois Alps of Switzerland, is a small well-developed ski resort which has become a popular choice for school trips and budget travelers, thanks to the relaxed atmosphere and excellent facilities for beginners. Plenty of modern accommodation has been added to the original village, and Leysin is now a major conference venue. It sits at a height of 1,200m high on a plateau, its south facing slopes receiving plenty of sunshine, and has some stunning views over the Rhone Valley. Leysin is home to a world-class snowpark, and plays host every year to the Snowboarding Championships.

Skiing in Leysin – The Mountains
There is a total of 60km of pistes in Leysin, served by 16 lifts, and incorporated into 2 main ski areas – Mayern and Berneuse. Almost three-quarters of the runs are classified as easy, with the nursery slopes conveniently located at village level, and the resort has blue runs found both at the lower level, where the terrain is mostly wooded, and at the top of the gondola. The 6 red runs of Leysin offer fast cruising down the mountain, and there are just a couple of black runs in the resort to challenge experts, particularly the trail with the vertical drop of 1,000m just beneath the Berneuse Gondola. Guides are on hand to help more competent skiers navigate the wealth of off-piste opportunities in Leysin, and the limited expert terrain is boosted by Leysins’ proximity to neighbouring ski resorts. The full lift pass includes the lift linked Villars, with its’ huge expanse of intermediate terrain, and Les Diablerets, with its year-round glacial skiing. Both of these resorts are accessible by free ski bus and they add an additional 100km of terrain to the Leysin area, with extra days offered in Gstaad and Chateau d’Oex. Also available with a six day pass is skiing in a multitude of resorts including Les Portes du Soleil, Les Marecottes, Crans Montana, Anzere, Naz and Champery Les Lacs.

Skiing in Leysin – The Après-ski
The small picturesque village of Leysin is usually buzzing with students during the ski season, creating a lively youthful atmosphere. The resort is fairly spread out with a bus service ferrying skiers from their accommodation to and from the lifts, bars and restaurants. Two sports centres offer excellent indoor amenities for non-skiers, such as swimming, tennis and squash, with curling, tobogganing, horseback riding, mountaineering and ice-skating also available. One of the major attractions in Leysin is Le Kuklos, one of Switzerlands’ three revolving restaurants, situated at 2,048m at the top of the cable-car, which takes in absolutely stunning views of the Rhone Valley, Lake Geneva, and the peaks of the Matterhorn, Eiger and Mont Blanc.
